Start by making a pattern to work with.

Cut the pattern out of foam.

Fitting the windshield.
This piece was cut from leftover scraps from the Star Racer Helmet I recently created. It was made in part by cutting up a cheap Halloween mirror faceplate mask.
These masks are great because you can cut them carefully into any shape and looks great inserted into a foam project.

Build the main frame of the racer from foam.

Adding more foam, and brainstorming future detailing.

I use everything from an X-Acto blade, sharp pipes, a dremel, burners, marbles, and more, to add detail to anything that I am building.

I use different thicknesses of foam, in layers, for more detailing.

Fully built Racer. Now time for Plasti Dip, and a paint job.

This car is fueled by a burning star so it needs a big engine coming out the back that could house such an inferno.

Working a pattern to get the sphere shape I need for my engine.

Pattern cut from foam and ready to glue.

Fully glued.
This took some patience, a heat gun, and a lot of liquid cement to get the foam to want to fit (and stay) together.

Adding more foam for detail.

Final detailing on the engine, before the Plasti Dip stage.

Getting an idea how the engine will fit.

I use Plasti Dip to seal the foam in a rubber coating so it can be painted.

Star Racer, completed in Plasti Dip's Chameleon Blue Purple.

Star Racer - Love that Chameleon finish.
